Whitening Your Teeth With Activated Charcoal? – DIY.

Whitening Your Teeth With Activated Charcoal? – DIY.

Hi guys! Today I’m gonna try something new! I saw this all over the internet, and I was wondering, does it work? Today we are whitening our teeth with activated charcoal! EEK! If you wanna know how it turned out, then keep on reading!

Who doesn’t want whiter teeth, right? My teeth have gotten a bit yellow over the years, so I was looking for some safe(!) at home teeth whitening tricks. I saw a lot of stuff about baking soda and lemon juice, but guys don’t ever do that okay, just no! There are so many acids in those products that it will eat your teeth alive. Yes they’ll get white, but it eats your enamel. Be careful with trying things that you see on the internet, do your research!

Okay, now that’s out of the way! Activated charcoal is very popular these days, face masks, detox body scrubs, but also for teeth whitening. I did my research on it and it’s not known to be damaging to your teeth. It’s a natural absorbent, and it’s most used for sucking up toxins out of your body (think of overdose, food poisoning ect). That’s why it’s used in face masks, because it sucks out all the gunk. It’s not proven that it does remove stains on teeth, but I saw some great results, AND it’s all natural! I already made a post about a DIY activated charcoal face mask, so I’m feeling this whole activated charcoal hype!

What you will need:

  • You need an old toothbrush (I didn’t have one so I used my finger, that also works).
  • 1 activated charcoal capsule. Make sure you are using ACTIVATED charcoal, and not the things you put on your BBQ 😉 It needs to be for human consumption.

I must say I was pretty scared to do this, haha! I mean it looks pretty scary all that black.

Get your activated charcoal capsule and empty the capsule in a little bowl. Go to your bathroom and make your toothbrush (or finger) wet under some water. Dip your toothbrush in the activated charcoal and brush your teeth with it. It feels a bit dry and gritty but luckily I doesn’t have a taste. Make sure your teeth are all covered in this black goo. Set a timer for 5 minutes and let it sit. Now you can enjoy your zombie mouth and take some stunning selfies! 🙂 When the 5 minutes are over spit everything out in the sink and flush your mouth with water until the water runs clear. Now brush your teeth like normal with some toothpaste to get every black bit out of there and your done!

It was the first time for me trying this, and I must say I’m kinda surprised! For the first time using this my teeth did get a bit whiter! Don’t expect a super big difference with this. If you want a bigger effect you can do this once a day for 3 days. To keep your teeth white you can keep doing it once a month. Don’t do it everyday, I think that’s not the best thing for your enamel.

Here are my results!

I can really see the difference, and they feel squeaky clean! I do think I’m gonna do it again tomorrow, because it’s still not white enough for my liking! What do you think?
